The Razanakolona brothers' excellent Olympic adventure

January 18, 2006 - Source : NEWS

Madagascans throughout the world will remember February 10, 2006, as the date of their country's first participation in the Winter Olympics.

Alpine skier Mathieu Razanakolona, a young Canadian of Madagascan origin, delivered performances that merited him the chance to represent his home country in Turin. This unusual story will certainly arouse the curiosity of millions of television viewers the world over as they watch this "warm-blooded" athlete perform. Even more interesting is that Mathieu, along with his brother Philippe, who is doing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at École Polytechnique de Montréal, are redefining the Olympic dream on their own terms. The Razanakolona brothers' project, called rAzAlpin, represented École Polytechnique at the Forces AVENIR 2005 competition and is now being followed by several media outlets.

Dates to remember:
* January 24 - World Cup in Schladming
* February 10 - Parade of Nations at the Opening Ceremonies
* February 20 - Giant Slalom competition
* February 25 - Slalom competition
