A promising collaboration for students

July 21, 2011 - Source : NEWS
In May, Polytechnique's Service des stages et du placement (internship and placement department) concluded a co-operation agreement with the youth employment service Carrefour jeunesse-emploi de Duplessis (CJED) in Sept-Îles with a view to increasing the range of internships available for students.

The agreement was launched as part of the Place aux Jeunes project promoted by the CJED since 1998, whose objective is to encourage young people to move to outlying regions to fill the worker shortage.

Internships with support

Starting this fall, Polytechnique students who have found an internship in the Sept-Îles region and surrounding areas can benefit from personalized assistance with the various arrangements they need to make for their stay. The CJED has committed to assist Polytechnique students in finding reasonably priced, well-located accommodations, to welcome them upon their arrival in Sept-Îles and take them on a tour of the city and surrounding area, to ensure that their lodgings meet all agreed-upon expectations, and to invite them to at least one group activity over the course of their internship to help them integrate with the local community. The goal: to smooth out any possible wrinkles in their internship experience.

In short, it's a pilot project that may lead to more! We'll keep you posted!

 About the CJED

The CJED is a service centre where young adults aged 16 to 35 can get personalized help, information, training and mentorship as they progress. In addition, the CJED has provided services and managed the Place aux Jeunes Sept-Rivières since 1998.
