Professor Jean Rousselle publishes a work on hydrology with Presses internationales Polytechnique
As Professor Rousselle puts it: "Hydrology is the scientific study of water: its origins, movement and
distribution over the earth, as well as its physical and chemical properties, interactions with the physical and biological
environment and influence on human activities. In its strictest sense, hydrology studies water cycles in nature. It examines
the geographic and temporal distribution of water in the atmosphere, on the surface, in the soil and underground."
Lavishly illustrated and containing over 100 exercises and bibliographic references, the book is the first work to concurrently cover geographic information systems, remote sensing principles, water development, and statistical estimates on rate of flow, in addition to providing a universal description of hydrology.
The book is for undergraduate students in civil, forest, and agricultural engineering, as well as those in physical geography, geology or environmental science. It is also addressed to consulting engineers, government agents dealing with various aspects of hydrology, and professors.
The work takes the modern hydrologist through the scientific and technical aspects of hydrology. Hydrological phenomena are
scientifically defined in order to provoke their study, identify the observations required and ensure comprehension of each
stage of the water cycle. The elements of each learning situation are integrated into both theoretical and applied models. The
work also presents numerous methods and techniques for resolving hydrological problems, in addition to exercises.
