Professor Gilles Savard appointed Acting President of Polytechnique Montréal

Polytechnique Montréal’s Board of Directors today announced the appointment of Professor Gilles Savard as Acting President for a term beginning October 1, 2021, and ending January 7, 2022. Thereafter, he will become Interim President (as of January 8, 2022), until a new President is appointed.

Professor Savard received his Ph.D. (1989) and M.Sc. (1984) in Operations Research from Polytechnique Montréal. He began his academic career as a professor at the Collège militaire de Saint-Jean in 1988. In 1993, he joined the Department of Applied Mathematics at Polytechnique, where he has been a full professor since 1998. In addition to a rich career as an educator and as a basic and applied researcher, Professor Savard has acquired solid experience in university management and technology transfer. From 2001 to 2007, he served as Director of the Department of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering, and from 2007 to 2017, as Director of Research, Innovation and International Affairs at Polytechnique. In 2017, he became the Executive Director of the Institute for Data Valorization, IVADO, a mandate which he has just completed. He is a member of numerous notable committees and boards of directors, both in Québec and in France.

The members of the Board of Directors express their firm confidence in Professor Savard's ability to successfully carry out this new mandate, on the eve of Polytechnique Montréal's 150th anniversary.
