Postcard from Poly-Monde 2006
Hey, everybody!
Since our arrival in Warsaw on May 11, we've seen a large part of Poland and the Czech Republic.¸
Our industrial visits in Warsaw, Lodz, Poznan, Wroclaw, Czestochowa, Katowice, Tychy, Krakow, Rzeszow, Brno, Decin, Sokolov and Prague were about as hectic as you can get; but they gave us some idea of the scope of Central Europe's transformation. We could see that some firms had quickly adapted to a market economy and were making the most of their country's entry into the European Union, while others found the transition difficult.
Each day we attended a presentation given by a company director followed by a visit to the facilities; and each night was
spent exploring the cities, some of which are magnificent. Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, Brno and Prague took our breath away with
the beauty of their architecture and their vast cultural wealth.
When we return, we'll write up a report on the visits and what we learned from them. We'll be presenting the report during an
evening sometime in November. You are all cordially invited!
We'd like to thank École Polytechnique for its support, as well as the many businesses that have contributed to the success of the 2006 Poly-Monde mission.
Have an excellent summer,
The 2006 Poly-Monde team
