The Poly-Monde 2006 project, led by students from École Polytechnique de Montréal, won the AVENIR Affaires et vie économique award at the 8th annual Gala Forces AVENIR, held on September 28 at Québec City's Théâtre Capitole. Aiming to compare industry practices in Québec and abroad, the better to guide Québec firms in their international dealings, the 20 Polytechnique students involved in Poly-Monde went on a whirlwind industrial tour of Poland and the Czech Republic throughout the summer of 2006 on behalf of 15 Québec companies. All in all, highly promising leverage for the province's economy.

Hosted with verve by Grégory Charles, the gala also honoured three other impressive Polytechnique student projects: Poly-Théâtre, Robofoot and Ski Madagascar.

The emotion-packed evening also provided an opportunity to render glowing tribute to Polytechnique's Chairman of the Board, Bernard Lamarre, who after eight years on Forces AVENIR's administrative council has announced his retirement. A host of testimonials underscored Mr. Lamarre's exceptional commitment and dedication to young people.

"The most important verb is the verb 'to love.' And next in line is the verb 'to help,'" Mr. Lamarre said. A sentiment that admirably sums up the essence of this great philanthropist who, since the formation of Forces AVENIR, has grasped the full importance of recognizing and promoting the energy and imagination of youth and the multiple projects by which tomorrow's leaders contribute to changing the world for the better.
