Polytechnique student receives J. Armand Bombardier Internationalist Fellowship
The 25 fellowships awarded this year by the J. Armand Bombardier Foundation and the
Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), worth $10,000 each, will enable the fellows, chosen by an independent jury,
to pursue one year of overseas studies. The goal of the J. Armand Bombardier Internationalist Fellowships program is to offer
"fellowships for Canadians to study, research and work abroad in order to build their international competence and to enhance
Canada's participation in the world economy of the third millennium." In all, 700 students from across Canada applied for this,
the program's third competition.
Mr. Sylvestre will be using his Internationalist Fellowship to pursue PhD studies in the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology at the University of Bath, in the U.K. Besides lectures and seminars, his program of study will include a research project that will see him working to develop a miniature non-invasive medical device for the transport of molecules across the skin barrier. After obtaining his PhD, he plans to return to Canada to work on development of medical devices as a researcher or research professor in a university, research centre or industry setting.
Our congratulations to a most happy fellow!
