The Polytechnique Montréal community well represented among Greater Montréal's innovators
On June 13, 21 innovators were honoured as part of the Inspiration|Innovation project, an initiative of Greater Montréal's
technology clusters – Montréal InVivo, TechnoMontréal, Aéro Montréal and Écotech Québec – which aims to promote and
celebrate innovation in the metropolitan area. The Inspiration|Innovation collection will showcase people who have made their
mark with their innovative spirit and whose international reputation reflects positively on Greater Montréal and all of
Québec.
Innovation is a key reason why the technology clusters were created. Innovation helps us be more efficient and create new
products and services. Innovation is also a powerful driver for value creation in Montréal and Québec as well as being the
best strategy for positioning ourselves well when faced with international competition.
Among those being honoured, the Polytechnique community is represented by eight innovators:
Life Sciences and Health Technologies category (Montréal InVivo): Sylvain Martel, professor in the
Department of Computer Engineering and director of Polytechnique Montréal's NanoRobotics Laboratory.
Information and Communications Technology category (TechnoMontréal): Lorne M. Trottier, honorary
doctorate from Polytechnique Montréal (2011).
Aerospace category (Aéro Montréal): André Bazergui, a graduate in mechanical
engineering (1963), who has been employed by Polytechnique as a professor, researcher, department director and executive
director for more than 30 years. Recipient of the ADP merit award from Polytechnique's alumni association, the Association des
diplômés de Polytechnique (2000). Marc Parent, a graduate in mechanical engineering (1984) and honorary
doctorate (2012) from Polytechnique Montréal.
Clean Technology category (Écotech Québec): Guy Drouin, a graduate in electrical engineering (1972)
