Ke Wu, a professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Canada Research Chairholder in Radio and Millimetric Wave Engineering and Director of the Poly-Grames research centre, has just been elected to the Royal Society of Canada (RSC).

The announcement was made July 7. This year, the RSC elected 60 new Fellows and three Foreign Fellows. Professor Wu is one of four Canadians appointed to the Applied Science and Engineering Division of the RSC's Academy of Science. New Fellows are officially welcomed to the RSC during a ceremony that will take place on Sunday, November 27, 2005.

Known internally for his work on electromagnetic fields, microwaves and millimetre-waves, Professor Wu has authored 17 major inventions and more than 400 world-class publications. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and member of the Canadian Academy of Engineering.

Election to the RSC is one of the greatest honours a Canadian researcher, artist or scientist can receive. Gilles Paquet, President of the Society, says that the RSC is proud to highlight the intellectual achievements of new Fellows, whose outstanding contributions are helping to build the world of tomorrow. The RSC has over 1,700 Fellows, acknowledged by their peers as leaders in their fields.

Ambassador of the city
In recognition of his substantial contribution to Montréal's international reputation, Professor Wu has recently been appointed accredited ambassador for the 20th gala of the Ambassadors' Club of the Palais des congrès de Montréal.

As host of the 2012 International Microwave Symposium (IMS), held by the Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S), the City of Montréal can expect to welcome some 12,000 delegates and 1,000 industry speakers from around the world. Thanks to the efforts of Professor Wu, this international conference is taking place outside of the United States for the first time in over 34 years. With a projected economic gain of $60 million, the event represents a substantial conference for the city. Professor Wu says that he is particularly proud to have convinced his colleagues to choose Montréal for the staging of this international event, the most important in its field.

Our congratulations to Professor Wu!
