Jean-Philippe Charron, new assistant professor in the Department of Civil, Geological and Mining Engineering
Beginning this fall, Mr. Charron will be teaching the graduate-level course in Techniques for Concrete
Structures CIV 6505). Starting with the winter 2005 semester, he will be teaching another course, the title of which will be
confirmed shortly, to undergraduates this time.
Prior to this appointment Mr. Charron had been a research engineer in the Structural Maintenance, Construction and Security Laboratory at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. "Part of my responsibilities involved conducting engineering contracts for firms that had hired the Laboratory. I was also in charge of a major research program in infrastructure rehabilitation using ultra high performance fibre reinforced concrete," the newly appointed professor notes.
In addition to teaching, he will be continuing research into rehabilitation of concrete infrastructures. His precise
research work in this field will involve determining allowable life-cycle limit states (deformation, stresses) for
ultra-high-performance fibre-reinforced concrete with a view to forestalling degradation of infrastructures designed with these
materials.
