Benoît Robert, associate professor, Mathematics and Industrial Engineering department, Polytechnique
Mr. Robert will begin teaching undergraduate courses in project management in the Department of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering this September.
This is not his first experience at Polytechnique, as he has been working here since 1990. After obtaining his
PhD in Civil Engineering, with a specialization in Hydraulics, he worked for two years as a research associate with
Professor Claude Marche on development of an expert system. He then held various positions at Polytechnique in the Department
of Civil, Geological and Mining Engineering.
He then became an assistant professor, taking on university research projects, lecturing and directing students. He was appointed a full-time researcher in 1999. Concurrently with these activities, he has been a consultant in cognitive engineering and risk analysis and an associate researcher at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM).
In 1999 he created the Centre de recherche risque et performance, which is devoted to assessment of risks due to life support systems interrelationships. The centre is the only one of its kind in North America.
This summer Mr. Robert is preparing to teach a course in technology-project management. He also works to implement research concepts in collaboration with the Québec Public Security Ministry and the City of Montréal. His interests lie in integrating project management techniques into emergency measures planning. In practice, pursuant to the recently passed bill 173 (Civil Security Act), he seeks to develop methodologies for resource management and integrating them into civil security schematics.
His future students will surely benefit from the spirit of innovation he displays, as one of his interests is development of novel teaching methods.
