Polytechnique mechanical engineering graduate (2013) takes the prize for the quality of her thinking.

Since 1981, the Augustin Frigon lectures have showcased prestigious guests, including Nobel Prize laureates, members of the Académie française and people who have defined our era with their knowledge, accomplishments and thinking.

For the first time in 2012, the event included a meeting between guest speaker Benoît Lacroix and five Polytechnique students to discuss their vision of the future on four major life topics. The discussion was filmed, and the highlights were turned into a set of clips available online in the video section of the competition web page.

Polytechnique community members (students, staff and faculty) were invited to watch the short videos and submit a text detailing their own thoughts on the topics addressed by Mr. Lacroix. This first edition of the Prix Augustin-Frigon writing competition concluded on April 5. Florence Morin Bernard's writing impressed the jury, which was made up of Mr. Lacroix, guest speaker for the Augustin Frigon lectures, Michèle Thibodeau-DeGuire, Chair of the Chair of the Board of the Corporation de l'École Polytechnique de Montréal, and Pierre Robillard, professor in the Department of Computer Engineering and Co-ordinator of the Augustin Frigon lectures.

The Augustin Frigon lectures aim to raise awareness within the Polytechnique community about major social, cultural, historical, political, economic or scientific issues.

The second edition of the competition will take place in the fall of 2013. Details will be provided at that time about the guest speaker, the topics to be discussed, and how to submit a text.
