2006 prizes for best thesis and dissertation

To pay tribute to the excellent work of its graduate students, this year École Polytechnique is awarding three prizes for
outstanding student work: one for the best doctoral dissertation and two for the best master's thesis. Two honourable mentions
were also granted to students who had submitted exceptional work.
Best doctoral dissertation
- Dominic Deslandes (Electrical Engineering) received $2,000 for his thesis titled Étude et développement du
guide d'ondes intégré au substrat pour la conception de systèmes en ondes millimétriques. Mr. Deslandes' work was supervised by
Ke Wu.
Best master's thesis - Maxime Ducoulombier (Energy Engineering) received $1,000 for his thesis titled Optimisation thermodynamique des systèmes frigorifiques. Mr. Ducoulombier's work was supervised by Professor Alberto Teyssedou and Mikhaël Sorin, a researcher at CANMET.
- Mathieu Riel (Electrical Engineering) received $1,000 for his thesis titled Conception d'une antenne réseau-réflecteur à balayage électronique du faisceau à 5.4 gHz pour des applications spatiales. Mr. Riel's work was supervised by Professor Jean-Jacques Laurin.
- Jury members also gave honourable mention to Bill Baloukas (Engineering Physics) for his excellent thesis titled Conception et fabrication de dispositifs de sécurité optiques. Mr. Baloukas' work was supervised by Professor Ludvik Martinu.
- Special mention was given to Simon Gaudet (Engineering Physics) for his outstanding master's thesis titled Étude de la réaction de couches minces de métaux de transition avec le germanium pour leur application en microélectronique. Mr. Gaudet's work was supervised by Professors Patrick Desjardins and Christian Lavoie.
