Titre : Discovering the Architecture of a Dynamic Messaging system for Vehicular Social Networks

Conférencier : Saida Maaroufi, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Mobile Computing and Networking Research Laboratory (LARIM), École Polytechnique de Montréal.

Résumé : The drudgery of daily long commutes is unavoidable. It is considered as one of the awful moments of urban life since it negatively impacts the drivers’ well-being by increasing their stress levels and lowering the quality of their traveling experiences during rush hours. Vehicular networks have recently emerged as a promising solution to urban transportation problems. They aim at ensuring comfortable and safe trips to the travelers and also at helping them to avoid congested traffic areas using vehicular applications and services.

However, the deployment of vehicular systems is still far removed from the ideal and highly depends on solid wireless communication strategies in order to respond to the urgent and real-time user requirements on the road. In this presentation, we present DYMES, a novel Dynamic Messaging System for Vehicular Social Networks (VSNs). Our proposed system relies on novel publish/subscribe strategies that leverage on efficient and reliable context-aware communication protocols. First, we present a new Dynamic Publish/Subscribe Clustering strategy (DPSCS) that provides the opportunity for each commuter to build a self-updated, stable and interest-based vehicular community while preserving users anonymity.

Second, we present a novel Mobile Gateway Discovery/Selection Strategy

(MGDSS) that allows clustered vehicles to discover their neighborhood and to select a minimum number of appropriate gateways that send commuters' messages to the infrastructure. Third, the contextual information at the infrastructure level is updated using a novel online matching strategy. Fourth, we present a new online social aware publish/subscribe strategy for vehicles transiting in platoons. The performance of DYMES' strategies have been evaluated and validated through simulations and the results proved that our proposed system is the best suitable messaging system to improve the quality of real-time interactions among commuters in dense environments.
