Building for everyone

October is National Disability Employment Awareness month and we invite you to check out our Careers OnAir event with Laura Allen to learn about Accessibility at Google. Googlers with disabilities are making critical contributions across the company. We care deeply about making Google a place where everyone can learn, grow, and have an impact. For more, please visit g.co/pwd for career resources and spotlights featuring individual Googlers, the Disability Alliance, and Google’s work in accessibility.

We also continue to honor Hispanic Heritage Month in October. You can learn more about influential Latinx leaders by watching the behind the scenes making of the Google Doodle, honoring Felicitas Mendez or learn about Google’s Latinx Leadership by checking out the previously aired Careers OnAir Latinx Leadership panel.

We’ll be back next month to share more updates and information. In the meantime, consider joining Connect with Google and email techstudents@google.com with any questions.

Careers OnAir Virtual Events

Student Scholarships

Generation Google Scholarship: Application Opens Oct 14!

At Google, we believe information should be universally accessible. Our education and scholarship programs aim to support students in computing, gaming, and closely related fields by breaking down the barriers that prevent them from entering these fields.

Generation Google Scholarship is open to current high school seniors, undergraduate, and graduate students who will be studying at an accredited university in the United States or Canada for the 2021-2022 academic year. If selected, scholarship recipients will each receive a $10,000 USD scholarship for US institutions or a $5,000 CAD scholarship for Canadian institutions.

We’re also excited to announce an additional scholarship, Google Generation Scholarship: for women in gaming, to support students pursuing gaming degrees and/or computer science degrees for the advancement of gender equality in gaming. The program is open to students who meet all the minimum qualifications and we strongly encourage people who identify as part of historically underrepresented groups, including Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian, or Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, to apply.

Starting October 14, 2020, students can apply here. Application Deadline: December 4, 2020.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

On the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month 2020 in the U.S. Google’s Doodle celebrated Puerto Rican civil rights pioneer and business owner Felicitas Mendez. Alongside her husband Gonzalo, Felicitas helped to spearhead and win the monumental lawsuit Mendez v. Westminster, which in 1946 resulted in the first US federal court ruling against public school segregation—almost a decade before Brown v. Board of Education. Learn more by watching the video Behind the Doodle: Celebrating Felicitas Mendez.

Developer Student Clubs

University students around the world who are part of Developer Student Club communities took part in the 2020 Solution Challenge by building projects to solve local problems using Google technologies. Projects ranged from technology that helps examine COVID-19 data, to a platform for helping people achieve health goals. To learn more about the winning teams, check out this blog post, or tune in to the YouTube video showcasing the top 10 winners and their solutions!
