A software for the computer aided design of RTM/SRIM molds has been developed. Isothermal mold filling simulations can be
performed to assist in positioning the injection parts, the vents and the injection parameters (pressure, flow rate, injection
strategy). The software was validated for different types of preforms (carbon or glass mats and fabrics) with obstacles
including race tracking on the mold lateral walls.
A non-isothermal module can analyze by three-dimensional finite elements injections in steel or composite molds. The
retroaction of the mold on the cavity and of the temperature and heat of reaction on the filling is also included.
On-going research is focused on multilayer flows, sandwich panels and flexible RTM (SCRIMP process). The software is made
available through a users club, which include Aerospatiale, Ford, Hispano-Suiza, Dassault, Matro Automobile, etc.
