Research Specification

The mission of the 3SPack NSERC/Saputo/Excel-Pac Industrial Research Chair is to develop innovative, multilayer packaging using materials and films whose functional properties help improve safety. Detecting pathogens, reducing the amount of materials used and using biodegradable materials are other key concerns. The Chair aims to develop flexible multilayer with added value for the environment and society.

Research at the 3SPack Chair focuses on four main themes: 

•  Developing a safe, high performance and cost-effective packaging (improved seal, barrier, antibacterial properties and effectiveness);
• Developing “smart” packaging by incorporating sensors into films;
• Developing sustainable packaging that uses less material and offers recyclability and biodegradability;
• Developing specific applications using multilayer structures for pouches in which the contents can be cooked.

Specialized Equipments

The research team will have access to unique facilities, including new equipment acquired with support from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), CREPEC and Polynov laboratory. A detailed list of the equipments can be found on the Chair's web site.
