SERC/Hydro-Québec Industrial Research Chair on the sochastic optimization of electricity generation
MISSION AND VISION
The Chair's mission is to establish a research group to develop effective, efficient approaches to resolve the stochastic optimization issues encountered in managing electricity power systems that use wind or water sources.
The Chair will also train highly qualified personnel to ensure succession in this area at Hydro-Québec, transfer knowledge and share best practices.
RESEARCH AREAS
The Chair's research program is based on two complementary approaches, one of which is methodological in nature, the other of which bears on specific applications. The former will focus on systematically evaluating and developing new computational methods for solving stochastic optimization problems. The applied projects component, in turn, will develop models and methods for use in the co-ordinated management of the bulk power system or in hydrological systems with multiple large reservoirs.
