OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the Chair are to:

- advance theoretical knowledge and make a useful contribution to project managers working in industry;
- contribute to the improved performance of technology projects carried out in companies;
- train highly qualified technology project managers;
- study the characteristics specific to technology project management, through project simulation,management tools and collaboration.

PROGRAM

The research projects are grouped into four sectors corresponding to the critical components of collaborative and distributed technology project management: namely, governance, technological infrastructure, competencies and advanced practice implementation. Each of these sectors represents a specific perspective that can be studied from different theoretical standpoints and through an empirical approach combining field investigations (grounded theorizing) and laboratory experimentation.

The different sectors address:

1. Governance mechanisms for collaborative and distributed technology projects:
team structure (roles and responsibilities), co-ordination mechanisms, and the contractual and dynamic aspects of interaction between the various parties involved in the project;

2. Organizational and individual competencies:
identification of the competencies associated with effective management for projects of this type, with emphasis on the relational and communicational aspects;

3. Technological infrastructure:
issues associated with the interoperability of systems, the impact of technologies on workflow, and their effects on mechanisms for decision-making;

4. Introduction of collaborastive and distributed technology project management:
transitions between traditional project management and that required by the creation of distributed collaborative teams; also, the critical factors for success. This sector strives to integrate the knowledge generated in each of the other three sectors (governance, competencies, infrastructure).
