Biography
Dr Carl-Éric Aubin is a full professor with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at École Polytechnique, Researcher at Sainte-Justine University Hospital Center, and associate professor with the Department of Surgery at Université de Montréal. From 2000 to 2010, he held a Canada Research Chair “Innovation in Orthopedic Engineering”. Now, he is holding two Chairs: the NSERC-Medtronic Industrial Research Chair in Spine Biomechanics and Polytechnique's Excellence Research Chair in Orthopedic Engineering.
Dr Aubin's scientific interests include the study and biomechanical modeling of pediatric scoliosis, as well as the evaluation, design and optimization of its orthopedic treatment (orthoses, spinal instrumentation), in order developing more efficient and less invasive treatment approaches.
Dr Aubin belongs to many professional associations (Quebec's Engineering Professional Order; Fellow of the Scoliosis Research Society; President of the International Research Society of Spinal Deformities; founding member of Computer Assisted Orthopedic Surgery-International; Past President of the Québec Scoliosis Society). He co-directs the FRSQ-funded Biomedical Science and Technologies Research Group and is the responsible of the research axis on Musculoskeletal Pathologies and Movement Sciences at Sainte-Justine Hospital Research Center. He is co-chair of the 3D committee of the Scoliosis Research Society.
Dr Aubin has been awarded many grants from major organizations (NSERC, CIHR, etc) and industrial partners. He was awarded in 2009 a 7.4 M$ grant (from CFI/Qc) that he lead for a new multi-center project on musculoskeletal pathologies.
Dr Aubin has published more than 115 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, over 400 abstracts in scientific journals or conference proceedings, and has coauthored four patents. He has received many awards including the Young researcher Prize of the Foundation of Stars, and was an honorary professor at Sichuan University (China). Dr Aubin has directed or co-directed over 70 master and doctoral students, and 10 post-doctoral fellows. He is Director of the newly established NSERC/CREATE MEDITIS training program in biomedical engineering.
