In this era of globalization, managing innovation has become a critical strategic issue. Generic policies no longer cut it. We now understand that different practices and strategies are necessary depending on the game of innovation in which a company plays.Dr. Roger Miller and his colleagues, in collaboration with the Industrial Research Institute, are leaders in researching games of innovation. They have found that games in high- or low-technology sectors create and capture value through innovation by a different emphasis on (1) productizing, (2) engineering for reliability, (3) alignment of product and service architectures, and (4) interactions with customers.
