Research Budget

A research budget of $71.3 M distributed as follows:

  • $42 M in grants and research contracts;
  • $18.8 M in infrastructure (CFI-Govt. of Quebec-Partners);
  • $8.8 M in indirect costs

Research at a glance

  • Since 2000, 81 projects amounting to more than $209 M invested in research infrastructure and equipment (CFI program in collaboration with the government of Quebec and several industrial partners);
  • Close to 500,000 square feet of research facilities;
  • Over 450 research grants per year;
  • Over 300 research contracts and agreements per year;
  • 24 Canada Research Chairs;
  • 16 Industrial Chairs (9 of which are funded by NSERC);
  • 27 Research Centers and Groups;
  • Over 225 professors;
  • 13 researchers;
  • 238 research professionals;
  • 267 research assistants;
  • 66 post-doctoral fellows;
  • 1 668 graduate students (532 of whom at the Ph.D. level);
  • Over 1100 publications in 2009 (including 609 papers in scientific journals and 465 in peer-reviewed conference proceedings);
  • 167 master's theses and 75 Ph.D. dissertations in 2009.

Technology transfer

  • 39 invention disclosures in 2009-10;
  • 6 currently active spin-off companies;
  • 114 technologies currently commercialized;
  • 252 direct and indirect jobs created (2001-2009 period);
  • Investments amounting to $104.3 M (2001-2009 period) in venture capital and equity financing.
