Individual room features

Wet laboratory

Classification (reference UM-SST-PR-11)

1. Biohazards levels 1 and 2;

Basic equipment

• Bench: chipboard/plywood laminated with an acid-resistant material. Storage under the benches and wall storage. Eight (8) work stations, four (4) chairs;
• Plumbing: hot and cold water – one (1) hygiene sink with eye-wash and laboratory spray – one (1) utility sink with station for solvent recovery – two (2) cups/bench, each cup with one (1) vacuum breaker and one (1) goose neck (cold water only). No floor drain;
• Air: one (1) compressed air outlet/bench (100 psi without regulator);
• Ventilated cabinet for a vacuum pump under one counter;
• Air conditioning/ventilation: ten (10) air changes/h (1.35 cfm/sq. ft. – 8-foot high ceilings). Supply temperature at 50°F with heating coil for comfort maintenance;
• Standard stainless steel 5-foot wide fume hood with variable air volume equipped with one (1) nitrogen nozzle, one (1) compressed air nozzle (100 psi regulated), four (4) cold water supply valves and two (2) cups, one (1) ventilated acid cabinet, one (1) non-ventilated solvent cabinet and eight (8) 120-VAC/15A outlets. Features: 100 ppm at the sash (lab in use) and 60 ppm (lab not in use) with occupancy detector;
• Artificial lighting: 750 lux;
• Electrical power outlets: two (2) 120-VAC/15A per meter of bench/wall;
• Telephone outlets (IP)/computer network/minimum of three (3) per laboratory;
• Other: automatic water sprinkler and hand extinguisher standard BC type;
• Trash container.

Storage room *

Classification (reference UM-SST-PR-11)

1. Type 1 - negative-pressure room;
2. Chemical hazards level 2;
3. Toxicity hazards and flammability;
4. Standard floor load.

Basic equipment

• Adjoining the laboratory area;
• Storage: one (1) corrosive liquid cabinet (20 L) and one (1) flammable liquid cabinet (155 L);
• Cabinets ventilated through a vent system at 12 air changes/h;
• Electrical power outlets : four (4) 120-VAC/15A.

* Note :  One of the group of facilities has a cold room instead of a storage room.

Multifunction instrumentation room

Classification (reference UM-SST-PR-11)

1. Biohazards level 1;

Basic equipment

• Benches: chipboard/plywood laminated with an acid-resistant material hung on 2 sides of the room with storage drawer and open space underneath for storing equipment. Four (4) work stations, (4) chairs;
• Plumbing: hot and cold water – one (1) hygiene sink with eye-wash – one (1) cup/bench, each cup with one (1) vacuum breaker and one (1) goose neck (cold water only). No floor drain;
• Air conditioning/ventilation: ten (10) air changes/h (1.35 cfm/sq. ft – 8-foot high ceiling). Supply temperature at 50°F with heating coil for comfort maintenance;
• Artificial lighting: 750 lux;
• Electrical  power outlets: two (2) 120-VAC/15A per meter of bench/wall;
• Telephone outlets (IP)/computer network: Minimum of five (5) per instrumentation room:
• Other: automatic water sprinkler and hand extinguisher standard BC type;
• Trash container.

Investigators' offices

Each business gets one (1) single investigator office and two (2) dual investigators offices :

Single investigators' office

• One (1) work spaces with a pedestal and two shelves each;
• One (1) office chair;
• One (1) desk lamp;
• Two (2) guest chairs;
• One (1) 6 book shelves cabinet;
• One (1) 6-drawer filing cabinet;
• One (1) wall mounted white writing board;
• One (1) waste basket and one (1) recycling bin;
• Telephone outlets (IP)/computer network: six (6) per office;
• Artificial lighting: 750 lux.

Dual investigators' office

• Two (2) work spaces with a pedestal and two shelves each;
• Two (2) office chairs;
• Two (2) desk lamps;
• One (1) 6 book shelves cabinet;
• One (1) 6-drawer filing cabinet;
• Two (2) waste baskets and two (2) recycling bins;
• Telephone outlets (IP)/computer network: six (6) per office;
• Artificial lighting: 750 lux.
