Prospective graduate students
Recommended funding amount
The recommended funding amount (MAFS) is aimed at providing acceptable funding to allow students registered in a thesis-based mater’s program or a doctorate program to benefit from sufficient financial support so that they can dedicate themselves to their studies and research work.
The awarded financial aid should allow the student to benefit from a minimum yearly amount of $17,500 at the master’s level and $20,000 at the doctorate level.
Your research supervisor is by no means forced to honour this amount. However, it is recommended to discuss it with him/her so that things are clear before you start your study program.
It is not always in your research supervisor’s interest for you to have to find alternate funding. Indeed, if you have to work, the time you will dedicate to your research project will probably be reduced and it will take you longer to achieve results.
Moreover, if you are eligible for scholarship programs, do not hesitate to apply!
