CSC Doctoral Scholarships

CSCThe China Scholarship Council (CSC) is a non-profit institution with legal person status affiliated with the Ministry of Education. The objective of the CSC is to provide, in accordance with the law, statutes and relevant principles and policies of China, financial assistance to the Chinese citizens wishing to study abroad and to the foreign citizens wishing to study in China in order to develop the educational, scientific and technological, and cultural exchanges together and economic and trade cooperation between China and other countries.

Polytechnique Montréal is very pleased to receive applications from excellent Chinese students who will be applying for China Scholarship Council (CSC) doctoral scholarships.

Scholarship requirements

  • Students must be citizens or permanent residents of China and accept to return to China after obtaining their Ph.D. degree at Polytechnique Montréal.
  • Students must have a degree deemed equivalent to the Master's from Polytechnique Montréal.
  • Students must have been admitted to a Doctoral program at Polytechnique Montréal.
  • Students must be a registered student in one of the Chinese universities recognized by the China Scholarship Council.

Funding

The CSC will cover return airfare, visa application fees, and annual living allowance including the Student Health Insurance Plan. 

The admission offers from Polytechnique Montréal will specify that if and when you are granted a scholarship from the China Scholarship Council, you will be exempted from paying tuition fees.  To qualify for this exemption, you must submit proof of the received scholarship to the Registrar’s Office. However, scholarship holders must still pay the administrative and miscellaneous student fees.

Application Procedure

Please apply to Polytechnique Montréal as normal (besides specifying your application to CSC Scholarship):

  1. Determine which doctoral program you’d like to apply to.
  2. Investigate potential research supervisors in the graduate program you intend to apply to.
  3. Fill out the application form online (only if you are able to make your payment using a Visa or Mastercard - in French only) OR on paper.
  4. Specify in your application that you apply for the CSC Ph.D. Scholarship. 
  5. Send in the required documents listed in the application guide.
  6. Once you receive an admission offer in a Ph.D. program at Polytechnique Montréal, apply to the CSC doctoral scholarship program via your current University in China.

Deadlines

Admission and scholarship applications will be accepted for the Autumn semester only. The deadlines for the admission procedures in Autumn are:

Admission Application

January 10

Admission or refusal letter to the student by Polytechnique Montréal

February 15

Selection of Scholars by the Chinese Universities

February 28

Selection of Scholars by the CSC

March 20

Final decision by the CSC May 31

Regular application

Funding

You will have to discuss with your research supervisor about possible financial support to dedicate yourself to your studies and research work. Please note that all foreign students registered in a doctorate program at Polytechnique Montréal are exempted from differential fees and pay the same tuition fees as Quebec students. You will receive a world-renowned education whilst paying lower tuition fees than in many universities.

Language Requirements

The official language of instruction at Polytechnique Montréal is French. However, your research supervisor may agree to supervise your studies and research in English. You may make arrangements to pass your comprehensive examination and to write your thesis in English. Graduate studies course credits could also be followed in part or entirely in other English-speaking universities than Polytechnique Montréal.

There is no language proficiency test. Nevertheless, your research supervisor may require you to undertake English or French language studies if he/she deems it necessary to the progress of your studies. You may choose to register in French language courses at Université de Montréal (located on the same campus as Polytechnique) in order to improve your proficiency in French in the Montreal area.


Support for new students

Once you are admitted to Polytechnique Montréal, you have access to a wide range of services offered by the International Students’ Office to prepare your stay in Montreal (immigration matters, housing, finances, etc.).
