Laureate - Professor
François Bertrand, professor of chemical engineering, received the Award for Excellence in Teaching. Hired as assistant professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at École Polytechnique in 2000, he was promoted to associate professor in 2003 and full professor in 2007. He is at the basis of several educational reform projects. From 2003 to 2004, he contributes to the creation of the course GCH3100 Unit operations. This course offers a new approach to teaching by providing fewer hours of courses based on knowledge acquisition, and more time consecrated to the expertise and skills. He is described as outstanding professor by his peers and students. His results are close to perfect for all courses evaluated. The quality of his teaching has earned him eight awards from the Meritas students. Because of its excellent teaching abilities, his high availability to students and his tangible contribution to his department, the Academic Council of the École Polytechnique de Montreal has decided to give him the Excellence in Teaching Award 2010.
Each year, during its graduation ceremony, Polytechnique Montreal honors the excellence in teaching of one of its professors.
