Michel Meunier - Excellence in Teaching Award - Polytechnique Montreal
Laureate - Professor
Graduated from École Polytechnique de Montreal, Michel Meunier received a Bachelor of Engineering Physics (1978), and an MA in the same discipline (1980). He then obtained a Ph.D. in materials science from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1984). In 1985 he began his career at the Ecole Polytechnique as a researcher and in 1986 he became assistant professor in the Department of Engineering Physics. He was promoted to associate professor in 1989 and full professor in 1993. Throughout his career, Michel Meunier actively contributes to improving education. In 1998 he became Program Director of Engineering Physics, a position he held until 2001. Holds a Canada Research Chair Level 1 and cofounder of LTRIM Technologies, Michel Meunier also won in 2006, a Synergy Award for Innovation given by the Research Council Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada .
Exceptional teacher, Michel Meunier is one of the most honored of Meritas price at École Polytechnique. Indeed, students of engineering physics program awarded him eleven prizes during his career. Outstanding communicator, he can transmit his enthusiasm to his students. Moreover, his great teaching experience, combined with his expertise as a consultant, gives him a facility to demonstrate the practical aspects of engineering physics. Known for his availability, he acts as a mentor to many young professors in the department. His advice on teaching approach are meaningful and strongly contribute to the high quality of teaching in the Department of Engineering Physics.
Each year, during its graduation ceremony, Polytechnique Montreal honors the excellence in teaching of one of its professors.
