Awards and Honors
David Saint-Jacques obtained his bachelor's degree in engineering physics from Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal in 1993 and a PhD in astrophysics from Cambridge University UK in 1998. He then went to Japan to pursue his postdoctoral studies. Back in Montreal, he decides to begin medical studies at Laval University. In 2009, he has the possibility of realizing his childhood dream: to travel in space. He gets one of the two highly coveted positions in the Astronaut Space Agency (CSA), after a long selection processsus attended by 5,351 candidates. Third Quebecers to join the Astronaut Team in Canada, he took part in training program of the CSA in collaboration with NASA. This extraordinary experience, which should cause him to take part in projects of the International Space Station, will allow him to exploit all his fields of knowledge. To advance the practice of space medicine is one of its objectives. For his outstanding career at the frontier of science and technology, and his great contribution to humanity, Dr. Saint-Jacques is an example for students, researchers and graduates of Polytechnique. The École Polytechnique is proud to award him an honorary doctorate.
