Two teams of Polytechnique mining engineering students reach the second step of the SME/NSSGA Student Design Competition
In January, Polytechnique's two mining engineering teams took part in an international design competition that has been run since 2004 by the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) (SME) and the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA).
The competition is held in two parts: a first technical design step and a second oral presentation step. Only the six best teams, selected by a jury of industry people, can move on to the second step, which takes place in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Polytechnique's two teams were selected to be part of this year's top six:
Colorado School of Mines - Clear Creek Aggregates
Colorado School of Mines - Golden Grinders
Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur - Bharat Khanitras
Polytechnique Montréal - AggBeez
Polytechnique Montréal - Les Trépans de Montréal
Virginia Tech - Holden Aggregates
We would like to congratulate the members of both Polytechnique teams, and we wish them the best of luck in Salt Lake City on February 21!
Les Trépans are Pierre-Luc Sévigny, Samuel Beaudette, Anik Trépanier, Danny Provost, Vincent Brault and Jérémie Matte.
The Aggbeez are Gabriel Bélanger, Mathieu Denis, Sylvain Joyal, Oumar Dembélé, Marin Brochu-Baekelmans and Frédéric Provencher.
