"As-tu ta gourde d'eau?" campaign helps us take the "Virage bleu" on campus!
Polytechnique Montréal, HEC Montréal and Université de Montréal announce their shared commitment to “Virage bleu” (Go Blue), an initiative aimed at reducing consumption of single-use containers and promoting quality Ville de Montréal tap water. This action will reach nearly 85,000 people on campus and in the various buildings in the three institutions.
Collective engagement
The three establishments decided to “Go Blue” because of student and
staff demand, and in keeping with their commitment to sustainable development.
All the work done thus far by the campus student associations and committees, particularly the Association des étudiants de Polytechnique and PolySphère, made it possible to create a collaborative movement. “Virage bleu” is kicking off with an awareness-raising campaign across all three establishments as efforts get underway with the valuable co-operation of Ma santé au sommet, a group promoting healthy campus lifestyles.
“As-tu ta gourde d'eau?” (Got Your Bottle?) campaign
The “As-tu ta
gourde d'eau?” campaign will run until April 5. For the occasion, Ma santé au sommet ran a lunch-hour booth in
collaboration with PolySphère on March 19 on the 6th floor of the Lassonde buildings. A nutritionist was there to discuss the
various drinks that are good choices for hydration. Also, participants can enter the Ma
gourde d'eau et moi (My Bottle and Me) contest and be eligible to win a number of prizes! Campaign information and
educational content about drink choices are available on the Ma santé au sommet website.
A number of measures in place
With “Virage bleu,” some 85,000 people will be reached by
efforts to promote drinking tap water at campus fountains. The project requires the joint efforts of multiple players on
campus. Each of the three establishments prepared an action plan outlining the various measures that will be deployed in 2013
for the project.
At Polytechnique, actions will focus first on the Lassonde buildings: easy-fill gooseneck spouts will be added to fountains and bottled water will no longer be sold after September 2013. Steps will also be taken to progressively replace bottled water with water pitchers at institutional and student events as well as with the catering service. Based on the conclusions of this first phase, similar actions will be implemented in 2014 in the main building.
