Three Polytechnique students earn Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships and one wins a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship
Mehdi Mahnam, Shiming Zhang, Jacopo Panerati and Daria Camilla Boffito have been granted the country's most prestigious graduate studies scholarship.
Honourable Ed Holder, federal Minister of State, Science and Technology, announced the granting of scholarships totalling more than $34 million. These prestigious scholarships give world-calibre doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers who are carrying out cutting-edge research in Canadian universities, as well as Canadians carrying out research in foreign establishments, the support they need to pursue their work in the fields of health sciences, natural sciences, engineering and the humanities.

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships, which were created in 2008 by the Government of Canada, aim to recruit and retain world-calibre doctoral students. Vanier Scholars receive $50,000 per year for a maximum of three years of research.

Project: Development of catalysers toward the production of
“green” fuels that surmount the obstacles associated with current biodiesel production processes.
The Banting Post-doctoral Fellowships program, which was created in 2010 by the Government of Canada, is the fruit of concerted efforts to recruit and retain highly qualified, world-calibre postdoctoral researchers. Banting Post-doctoral Fellows receive $70,000 a year for a maximum of two years of research.
Both programs are funded through three federal research granting agencies: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).
Applications submitted to the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships Program are examined by multidisciplinary peer evaluation committees and by a selection committee made up of Canadian and foreign experts.
