Structural Engineering & Design magazine names Professor Robert Tremblay to its Power List of 10 luminaries who have marked the U.S. structural engineering field
Robert Tremblay, a full professor in Polytechnique's Department of Civil, Geological and Mining Engineering, has directed his research work toward seismic mitigation design and stability of steel structures. This has included development of innovative quake-resistance systems. He also studies the seismic behaviour of single-storey, large-surface-area steel buildings.
Professor Tremblay was named to Structural Engineering & Design magazine's inaugural Power List in
recognition of his enthusiasm for structural engineering and the progress in the field. In 2009, he received the American
Institute of Steel Construction's Special Achievement Award for notable achievements in research on structural steel and his
positive impact on the structural steel design and construction industry.
He is the current holder of the Canada Research Chair in Earthquake-Resistant Design and Construction of Building Structures,
and also sits on a number of task forces and committees for the development of codes and standards, including the National
Building Code of Canada Committee on Earthquake Engineering, the CSA-S16 Technical Committee on Structure Steel Design, and
AISC Task Committee 9 on Seismic Design Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings.
We congratulate Professor Tremblay for this honour!
