September 4, 2012, provincial election: suspension of academic activities
According to Québec's Election Act, all teaching institutions must declare a legal holiday on election day for students who are eligible to vote.
Because of this,
- All of Polytechnique Montréal's academic activities will be suspended on Tuesday, September 4, 2012.
- Make-up academic activities to replace those of September 4 will take place on Tuesday, December 4.
- The final exam period will begin on Wednesday, December 5, and will run from Friday, December 7, to Thursday, December 20 (1 day + 14 consecutive days for a total of 15 days).
- Thursday, December 6, is scheduled for the presentation of final projects and supervised projects.
Please see the 2012–2013 university calendar, which has been changed to reflect these corrections.
Please note that this change does not apply to students who begin their studies in October 2012.
Measures for certificate students
Lecturers must consult with their students and agree upon make-up class times with them.
Measures for staff
In keeping with the terms of the Election Act, to allow all staff members to have
four consecutive hours in which to exercise their right to vote, the regular workday of staff working on a day schedule on
September 4 must end by 4 p.m. at the latest, with no loss of regular salary. We remind you that polls are open from 9:30 a.m.
to 8 p.m.
If it is impossible to end the workday at 4 p.m., employees and their immediate supervisors must agree upon an appropriate time for employees to exercise their right to vote.
Staff members who work on special schedules will receive appropriate instructions from their supervisors.
