Samuel Pierre receives an honorary doctorate from Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR)

Samuel Pierre, a professor in Polytechnique Montréal's Department of Computer Engineering, accepted his honorary doctorate at the official awards presentation on May 15 during a ceremony celebrated at the CEU atrium in UQTR's Ringuet building.

After starting his career in UQTR's Department of Mathematics and Computing, Professor Pierre joined Polytechnique Montréal, where today he holds the NSERC/Ericsson Chair. Since the beginning, Professor Pierre has consistently been at the top of the field of cable and wireless communications networks, nationally and internationally. He is considered a leader in the area of next-generation mobile networking systems.

His skills and services have been solicited by organizations all over the world. He has an impressive scientific production record (books, papers, guest lectures and more). He has also contributed to educating many young researchers. His accomplishments have been recognized through some 20 prestigious awards (member of the Order of Canada, Knight of the Ordre national du Québec and more).

Professor Pierre also shows a clear sense of devotion, notably through his volunteer commitments within the Haitian community in Québec and with young Haitian immigrants. As well, he has taken part in several international co-operation missions as a technology expert to Haiti, Tunisia, Morocco and France.
