Robofoot en route to Japan

July 7, 2005 - Source : NEWS
On July 9, Robofoot, École Polytechnique's robot soccer team, headed to Japan to participate for the first time ever in the RoboCup. More than just a game, the RoboCup project is a forum for experimentation and exchange between international researchers working jointly on a central topic: robotics. Between now and 2050, the project aims to design and develop a team of fully autonomous humanoid soccer-playing robots capable of beating the reigning (human) world champs in a match played according to the regulations set out by the Fédération internationale de football.

RoboCup 2005 takes place in Osaka July 12-17. The competition will be followed by a symposium presenting the latest robotics developments.

Interesting to note, the Polytechnique delegation will be monitored in Japan by a Radio-Canada team that is preparing a report on Robofoot's activities for the science program Découverte. The report will air in the coming season.
