Robert Legros appointed President of the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering (CSCE)
Dr. Robert Legros, a full professor with Polytechnique's Department of Chemical Engineering, will hold the position until October 25, 2011.
The CSCE is part of the Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC), a body that also
brings together the Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC) and Canadian Society for Chemical Technology (CSCT). As part of its
mission, the CIC promotes excellence in chemical engineering for the well-being of all Canadians.
Dr. Legros began his career at Polytechnique in 1990 as an assistant professor with the Department of Chemical Engineering. He
went on to become an associate professor in 1994 and a full professor in 1998 before being made department head in December
2003.
After graduating from Polytechnique in 1983, he completed his PhD in chemical engineering at the University of Surrey, England,
in 1987, then entered post-doctoral studies at the University of British Columbia in 1988. Renowned for his expertise in
fluidization and its industrial applications, for a number of years his research has focused on recycling processes and
bioproduct purification. He has received many awards, published over 62 scientific articles, supervised 22 theses and
dissertations, filed three patents and obtained 25 research grants and contracts. He has also served as editor of the
prestigious Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering.
