Professor Caroline Boudoux recognized at 2011 Rendez-vous du Savoir

Tonight, the Palais des congrès de Montréal Recognition Award Gala takes place, where the partners of the Rendez-vous du Savoir will have the pleasure of announcing the winners of the second "Ça mérite d'être reconnu!" competition. Polytechnique Montréal is proud to announce that Caroline Boudoux, assistant professor in the Department of Engineering Physics and at the Biomedical Engineering Institute at Polytechnique, was selected from among a large number of candidates.

The "Ça mérite d'être reconnu!" competition was created to honour and promote the best researchers from academic institutions across Québec in three distinct categories: human and social sciences and arts and literature; natural sciences and engineering; and health. This year, four leading researchers were selected from a pool of 43 candidates representing 13 Québec universities. The 11-person multidisciplinary selection committee, with leaders from economic, scientific, and political fields, is chaired by Dr. Pavel Hamet, OQ, MD, PhD, a professor at Université de Montréal's Faculty of Medicine.

The four researchers stand out for the excellence of their work, which contributes to the advancement of knowledge in their respective fields. The respective applications of their work have already had, or are likely to have, significant positive impacts on society. "It's exciting to see that there is a strong new generation of researchers in our institutions who are passionate and ready to take up the torch," said jury chair Dr. Hamet. "After having the opportunity to examine the researchers' impressive projects, it is clear that our universities and research institutions are very fortunate in terms of talent, and we are proud to present them to the public. This initiative allows us to showcase new researchers, and to highlight the vitality of research in Québec, while raising public awareness of the impact of their research in daily life."

About Caroline Boudoux

In addition to being a professor, Caroline Boudoux is a researcher at the Centre de Recherche du CHU Sainte-Justine. Her work in engineering physics is at the leading edge of microscopy and endoscopy, using new fibreoptic components with less invasive and more precise instruments to allow the observation of internal organs in 3D through a simple needle. Her work has already attracted Univalor's interest in finding applications for this technology in the fields of orthopedics and otolaryngology. These technological advances will bring significant benefits to public health and to the quality of healthcare available.

CRIAQ in the spotlight

On the same evening, homage will be paid to a model of Québec business-university collaboration. The Consortium de recherche et d'innovation en aérospatiale au Québec (CRIAQ) will receive a commemorative plaque highlighting, among others, the exceptional results achieved by research and innovation for this sector of excellence in the Québec economy. Clément Fortin, former director of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Polytechnique, took up André Bazergui's position as CEO of CRIAQ. Mr. Bazergui held the office of CEO of Polytechnique for eight years. Both will be present to receive the award.

Polytechnique would like to warmly congratulate these two remarkable men!

A two-person lecture: Polytechnique Montréal International Chair in Life-Cycle Assessment and the Executive Vice-President, Merchandising of Rona
During the event, the Conférence des recteurs et des principaux des universités du Québec (CREPUQ) and Montréal International organized theme-based lectures to raise awareness about universities' potential and existing contributions to business development with a view to equipping and inspiring attendees.

A number of duos, including Manuele Margni, who holds the Polytechnique Montréal International Chair in Life-Cycle Assessment, and Normand Dumont, Executive Vice-President, Merchandising, with Rona, spoke this morning about their experience in regard to their partnership to implement environmental initiatives in the hardware chain's 700 stores. Mr. Margni is a researcher in the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Centre interuniversitaire de recherche sur le cycle de vie des produits, procédés et services (CIRAIG).
