Polytechnique takes part in a promising initiative for the Dominican Republic
Mr. Kozanitis spoke before 300 professors from five universities in the Santo Domingo region. The challenge is significant: to
increase the quality of the country's education system and improve students' success rate. Mr. Kozanitis touched on topics such
as university training program reform using a competency-based approach, course design, and the importance of professors' role
in developing students' competencies, given that students will be the teachers of tomorrow.
"The training above all aimed to raise awareness," Mr. Kozanitis says enthusiastically. "It looked at the 'what' and the 'why.' The reactions were very positive on the part of both participants and the collaborating organizations, as well as the organizers. The latter expressed the desire to have me return for a second phase, this time to provide training on the 'how.'"
This initiative is the result of a partnership among several organizations, which, like Polytechnique, hold education as a
priority. These include the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Higher Education; Fundación Inicia, a private organization that
funds educational projects; LASPAU, an organization associated with Harvard University that seeks to improve the quality of
education in Latin American countries; and the Inter-American Development Bank, which provides financial assistance in the form
of bursaries and low-interest loans.
We would like to congratulate Mr. Kozanitis for his contribution to this inspiring project!
