Polytechnique Montréal's Week of the White Rose: over $20,000 raised to date
Since the campaign launch on October 31, nearly 500 donations have been made.
Created by Polytechnique Montréal to mark the 25th anniversary of the tragedy of December 6, 1989, this non-profit
initiative aims to encourage the next generation of women in science and engineering. The money raised will be donated in its
entirety to Folie Technique, Polytechnique's science day camp, to help it welcome
even more young girls from disadvantaged communities to the camp.
December 6, 2014, is already behind us, but we are continuing to receive donations. The Holidays are approaching, and we are confident that many people will decide to send season's greetings by giving the gift of a virtual rose. Polytechnique plans to officially announce the total amount raised early in the New Year. The campaign's visibility is already bearing fruit: elementary schools have already asked us for bursaries for some of their students in need who are interested in science. The Week of the White Rose is clearly needed.
Remember that:
- a $10 donation buys one rose and pays for one girl's transportation to attend a science activity.
- a $50 donation buys 14 roses and brings a science activity to an elementary school class.
- a $150 donation buys 25 roses and enables a young girl to attend science camp for a week during the summer.
Polytechnique Montréal thanks all its donors. On behalf of those who benefit from your generosity, please accept our deepest thanks.
The promotion surrounding the Week of the White Rose took place during the week before December 6, but virtual white roses can be purchased year-round.
