A new Web application introduced at the Placement and Internship Services

November 22, 2011 - Source : NEWS
On Wednesday, November 23, Placement and Internship Services (SSP) launched its brand new information system, La Ruche. In total, more than 1,000 employers and 4,000 students each year will benefit from the new Web application.

Marc Groleau, employment advisor at Polytechnique Montréal and the project's manager, and Michel Brunelle, database administrator for Polytechnique, developed La Ruche in concert with Insum, an Oracle Application Express (APEX) technology consulting firm, with a view to making service more user-friendly for students and employers. Their work has brought about major in-house change for both SSP and Registrar employees, whose communications will be centralized with the new system. In short, everyone will be working with it!

"The SSP was facing certain limits with the application we used before. La Ruche is a cutting-edge system that will develop further over the years," SSP Director Allan Doyle said with pride.

"This application, programmed by Polytechnique's Computer Services, belongs to us," Groleau added. "So we'll have much more latitude, internally, when it comes time to make changes or improve things."

Employers will now be able to follow up on applications online, view students' résumés, copy internship and job offers, and even invite applicants for interviews directly. As for students, among other things they will be able to receive SMS messages, view the history of their applications, and send PDF-format documents.

The SSP publishes 2,500 internship postings and 900 permanent job postings annually. It is aiming to ease the logistics of these postings and in so doing improve the service it provides to students and employers.
