New awards aims to encourage women in engineering
The four scholarships, valued at $10,000 apiece (an amount to be distributed over three consecutive years), are made possible thanks to the generosity of Inco Ltd. They will be granted based on extracurricular activities and dedication to encouraging women to enter the field of engineering, and not on academic performance. The scholarships will be awarded in June 2006 at the Annual CEMF Scholarship Awards Luncheon, which takes place at the annual meeting of the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers. École Polytechnique's Fonds des victimes du 6 décembre 1989 also awards nine $1,000 undergraduate bursaries each year.
"Women in Engineering" at Polytechnique's open house
In cooperation with the Marianne Mareschal Chair, whose mission is to promote engineering as an attractive career choice among
young women, École Polytechnique has added a "Women in Engineering" component to this year's open house, which takes place on
Sunday, November 20. A roundtable discussion with young women engineering graduates will provide a glimpse into the diverse
career choices available to women in the field. What's more, an electronic mentoring program will allow participants to learn
more about the academic path to an engineering career by pairing them with a Polytechnique student currently studying in their
chosen field.
Women and science: an electrifying combo!
On February 18, 2006, École Polytechnique will host the Les filles et les sciences, un duo électrisant event, a day dedicated
to promoting scientific careers among teenaged girls in Secondary II and III.
