Michel Meunier named Fellow of the Optical Society of America
Michel Meunier, a professor in Polytechnique Montréal's Department of Engineering Physics and holder of the Canada Research Chair in Micro- and Nano-Engineering of Materials Using Lasers, has been named a Fellow Member of the Optical Society of America (OSA) in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the field of optics and photonics.
Professor Meunier is
recognized for fundamentals of laser materials processing and plasmonics and their applications
in biomedical, nanotechnology, and microelectronics.
OSA President Tony Heinz lauded Professor Meunier as part of
a select group of individuals representing a dozen countries on four continents who have made outstanding contributions to the
optics field.
The OSA, one of the world's largest optical
societies, has nearly 16,000 members in 100 countries, among themscientists, educators, engineers, technicians, students and business leaders.
Fellows are chosen on the basis of several criteria,
including publications, patents, achievements in the optics field. It is worth noting that 42% of OSA fellows reside outside
the United States.
Professor Meunier will officially receive his distinction at the annual OSA conference this May in California.
Our heartiest congratulations to Professor Meunier!
