Homage to Roland Bouthillette

On November 16, 2005, the Polytechnique community lost one of its most eminent members with the death of Roland Bouthillette, a pioneer of consulting engineering in Québec.

An École Polytechnique graduate (Class of '46) in mechanical/electrical engineering, Mr. Bouthillette began his professional life in academia, working as a professor between 1948 and 1964 after having obtained his master's degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.


His visionary qualities and innate sense of leadership subsequently led him to co-found Bouthillette Parizeau et Associés, a consulting engineering firm.


Returning to Polytechnique in 1984, Mr. Bouthillette chaired the school's Board of Directors until 1989. Throughout his mandate, Polytechnique benefited from his long experience in management, particularly in the process that led up to the school's expansion in 1989.


Mr. Bouthillette was awarded numerous distinctions throughout his career, including the Mérite de l'Association des Diplômés in 1989 and Meritorious Service Award for Professional Service from the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers.


Known for his outstanding career and unwavering commitment to Polytechnique, Mr. Bouthillette was appreciated by his colleagues and particularly by students. He was awarded a "Po en or" for his exceptional devotion to students.


École Polytechnique would like to offer its condolences to Mr. Bouthillette's family.
