Computer Science Games: Polytechnique takes top spot!
The Mayan Cats of the Sun, a Polytechnique team made up of computer engineering and software engineering students, took first place overall at the 10th Computer Science Games, held February 24–26 at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg.
The Polytechnique Montréal team excelled in most competitions and finished with a score of 77.67, beating out second-place Université de Sherbrooke by more than 6 points. To see the scores for all the teams, click here.
Polytechnique was represented by two teams, both of which earned strong scores in several events of the competition.
The winning team, the Mayan Cats of the Sun, comprised students Gabriel Royer, Simon Bourdages, Thomas Guilbert, Frédéric
Bélanger-Ouellet, Abderrahman Benbachir, Amélie Dagenais, Adrian Eftenie, Mathieu Fillion, Maxime Lavigne, Simon Marchi and
Alexandre Thivierge (chaperone).
The second Polytechnique team, the Mayan Cats of the Moon, finished first in the Participation event and second in the Theoretical Computer Science competition. The team was made up of Marie-Christine Leclerc, Guillaume Royer, Marc-Aurèle Charpentier-Podrez, Francis Deslauriers, Benoit Forget, Charles-André Huard, François Léger-Bélanger, Marc-André Levasseur, Alexandre Rose and Pierre-Bernard Thiffault.
The Computer Science Games, an annual event, brings together student teams from North American universities to face off in computer science and engineering, information technologies and video game competitions.
