On June 29, the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) announced new investments to attract and retain high-calibre researchers.

Three professors in the Department of Industrial Engineering, Marc Laforest, Dominique Orban and Louis-Martin Rousseau, obtained $633,368 in funding for a flexible platform project on sequential calculations for the parametrization of hybrid algorithms. The research, which also received funding both from industrial partners and the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport du Québec, is evaluated at $1.6 million.

In a recent announcement, the CFT's board of directors approved a total investment of $25.5 million through two funds: the New Opportunities Fund ($19.6 million), and the Infrastructure Operating Fund ($5.9 million), which assists universities with the incremental operating and maintenance costs associated with new infrastructure projects.

Through its New Opportunities Fund, the CFI currently supports 14 projects led by Polytechnique professors. These projects also receive support from the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport du Québec and a number of industrial partners, bringing the total investment to $18.4 million.
