Two professors in École Polytechnique's Department of Mechanical Engineering department - François Trochu, a tenured professor and member of the Centre de rercherche en plasturgie et composites (CREPEC), and Raymond Gauvin, emeritus professor - were honoured with the award for excellence at the 2004 International Symposium on RTM Composites.

The award was granted in recognition of their work on modeling and digital simulation in the processing of composites by polymer injection (Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) process). The 2004 International Symposium on RTM Composites was held last November 24 and 25 in Forbach, France.

The symposium was introduced a few years ago by the Pôle de Plasturgie de l'Est (PPE), a world-renowned technology-transfer centre that specializes in the RTM process. The objective of the meeting is to disseminate among participants the results of fundamental and applied research, as well as news on the development and implementation of tools required for industrial application.

The event program included conferences on and practical manufacturing demonstrations of polymerization and the interaction between tools and resins. Over 300 participants, most of whom are involved in the industry, from 23 countries attended the symposium. École Polytechnique was the only university among the recipients of the six awards presented at the event.

Congratulations to the two researchers for the award, which is another mark of the international recognition that École Polytechnique is receiving for its work in the field of high-performance composites.

  Professor François Trochu and Robert
Fonmartin, Director of the Pôle de
  Plasturgie de l'Est.
