Polytechnique Montréal is launching a competition for five scholarships of CAD$40,000 each to support the next generation of North American researchers.
In support of Canadian and American talent, these scholarships aim to attract, encourage, and integrate high-calibre students into Polytechnique Montréal’s doctoral programs in order to strengthen the scientific excellence and geographic diversity of the research community.
They are intended for Canadian or American applicants who have completed their most recent degree at a university outside Québec and who wish to begin a doctoral research program at Polytechnique Montréal in one of the following semesters: Summer 2026, Fall 2026, or Winter 2027.
Located in the heart of Montréal—one of North America’s most cosmopolitan and innovative large cities—Polytechnique Montréal offers a stimulating work environment where intellectual freedom, scientific rigour and responsible innovation are fully embraced. With a rich history spanning more than 150 years, Polytechnique is the leading engineering teaching and research university in Québec and one of the most influential in Canada. Its dynamic ecosystem comprises eight sector- and theme-based spheres of excellence along with some 60 research chairs (including several Canada Excellence). The university is fortified by state-of-the-art infrastructures valued at more than $500 million. Learn more.
The program includes a total of five scholarships, worth up to CAD 40,000 each and paid as CAD 10,000 per year for up to four years of doctoral studies.
In addition to this amount, recipients must receive a minimum level of financial support from their research supervisor, referred to as the suggested financial support amount (Montant d’aide financière suggéré – henceforth “MAFS”), in accordance with Polytechnique Montréal’s current supervision conditions. For reference, the MAFS is set at $26,000 per year for the 2025–2026 academic year.
Please note that the granting of the scholarship is conditional on confirmation of this additional financial support.
In addition to these scholarships, Polytechnique Montréal also plans to allocate funds to facilitate the recipients’ integration, notably by covering certain initial relocation or travel costs, depending on the situation. These will be one-time measures, adapted to individual circumstances.
