Detailed description

Fully Funded Doctoral (Ph.D.) Position at Polytechnique Montréal

About the Ph.D. position: Hybrid manufacturing (HM) combines metal additive and subtractive technologies. HM is used both for repairing and manufacturing near-net-shape components in key industries such as aircraft, space, energy, and defence. In HM, the additive manufactured parts undergo subtractive manufacturing (SM), i.e., machining, due to poor surface and dimensional quality. Hence, it is highly critical to develop the digital process twin of machining additive manufactured parts within HM. The Ph.D. candidate will develop theoretical and practical skills in:

  1. model development, programming, and experimental validation techniques,
  2. minimizing corrective post-machining operations,
  3. developing scientifically advanced theory for adaptive manufacturing process parameters through digitalization.

Eligibility:

The position is open to any interested candidates.

Qualifications:

A doctoral (Ph.D.) candidate with the following qualifications is sought:

  • Undergraduate and/or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, engineering mechanics, applied mechanics,
  • Strong programming skills in Matlab and/or Python,
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and/or French,
  • Prior experience in plasticity simulation, finite elements, solid mechanics, materials science, mechanical vibrations, experimental set-up design is a plus.

Application Procedure: Prospective candidates should send their full application package either in English or French to Assistant Professor Oguzhan Tuysuz at oguzhan.tuysuz@polymtl.ca. The application package should include:

  • A cover letter (2 pages maximum) explaining your motivation, research interests, your academic and professional background and how they make you a good candidate for the position,
  • Up-to-date CV,
  • Copies of all relevant transcripts,
  • Contact details of three references,
  • Please use 2023_PhD_1_LastName_FirstName in the title line of your application email.

Duration of Studies

Four (4) years.

Application Deadline:

The candidate search will continue until the position is filled.

Starting Date:
