Research areas description
The Canadian International Resources and Development Institute (CIRDI) (sir-dee)is a centre of expertise in improving and strengthening resource governance. We work closely with all stakeholders involved in resource development to identify better ways to use these natural resources to achieve prosperity. Our stakeholders encompass local, regional and national governments as well as communities and companies involved in the extractive sector. Our shared objectives are that developing counties are able to:
- Expand their ability to develop and manage natural resources in environmentally and socially responsible ways
- Capture a fair share of the wealth generated by natural resources
- Use natural resources to stimulate sustainable socio-economic growth, within and beyond the extractive sector
CIRDI is a coalition of the University of British Columbia (UBC), Simon Fraser University (SFU) and École Polytechnique de Montréal (EPM), working in partnership with the Canadian Government, civil society and industry.
