With 47 professors and 10 instructors, the Mathematics and Industrial Engineering Department is responsible for numerous programmes and courses at Polytechnique : the bachelor’s industrial engineering programme, professional Master’s and specialized graduate programmes in industrial engineering, Master’s and PhD programmes in industrial engineering and applied mathematics, as well as all mathematics and complementary studies courses.


This announcement is to fill the Scale AI supply chain/logistics chairholder position. The Scale AI Chair is intended to foster both methodological and applied research in Data Science with particular emphasis to Supply Chain. For this reason the candidate is a scholar with a strong research record in both methodological and applied aspects of Data Science for supply chain management. Because of the foreseen strong interaction with the Scale AI activities, the candidate should preferably have a proven experience in applied research with particular emphasis on urban logistics, transportation, demand forecast, logistics network design or any other relevant field.


The successful candidate will be expected the duties of this position with dynamism and creativity. In particular, he or she will:

  • demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels;

  • carry out innovative research;

  • supervise undergraduate and graduate students;

  • obtain grants and contracts aimed at training highly qualified personnel through research;.

  • publish the results of his or her research in scientific literature;

  • collaborate with other researchers and research teams within Polytechnique Montreal or with other institutions;

  • contribute to the influence of Polytechnique Montreal in Québec and internationally.


The department is searching for a professor with expertise in at least two of the following fields:

  • continuous and discrete optimization;
  • simulation-optimization methods;
  • probabilistic analytical modeling and statistical learning.

Priority is given to candidates demonstrating expertise in the developement of methods integrating techniques from different fields.


As soon as possible.


The successful candidate must hold a doctorate in a field relevant to the description of the position. Post-doctoral experience is an advantage.

The successful applicant will have to be registered as a Professional Engineer with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or will have to take the necessary measures to register prior to applying for tenure. The teaching language in Polytechnique is French, and the successful candidate will have to be fluent in French, both spoken and written, before applying for tenure. Polytechnique Montréal will provide the necessary assistance and support for the successful candidate to become registered members of the OIQ and to learn French.

This faculty position is tenure-track. Salary and benefits will be set in accordance with the collective agreement in effect (https://www.polymtl.ca/srh/relations-de-travail).
